We all like to feel good, right? I know I do. I want to feel bountiful and happy and joyous all the time. It's a beautiful desire to aspire to. I make my best effort every
day to have a good attitude and live in the magic of life. As I've embarked on this journey I've noticed that all different kinds of things make me feel good and empowered.
I can feel good because I cooked and ate a delicious meal or had a meaningful conversation with a friend. I can also feel good just by taking time to be still or making a new choice in an area I've been working on something in my life.
I've been listening to The Power of Now by Eckart Tolle again. This book is so full of rich content that I could listen to it hundreds of times and still extract powerful insights from it. Today, I heard him talk about the difference between pleasure and joy, and suddenly I felt my understanding of the source of my feelings of happiness snap into place. He said that
pleasure is derived from external things, while joy comes from within.
I recently wrote about how where you go, your spirit goes. Your ability to choose happiness and adjust your attitude lives within you. That source energy of joy comes from within and is deeply rooted in your spirit and soul.
Pleasure, on the other hand can come from eating that cupcake or feeling the touch of another person. We can all derive pleasure from receiving love in any of the five love languages of physical touch, quality time, words of affirmation, acts of service, and gifts. These are all beautiful external ways to communicate love to another person and generate a sense of pleasure and contentment.
Both things are important to life. My key take aways are that you can always have joy no matter what. It is always there. Pleasure is a beautiful and natural part of life, and you should derive pleasure with a sense of awareness. We all know that too much cake or too much of almost anything can turn from pleasure to misery quickly.
I encourage you to nurture your joy and embrace the pleasure in your life with full consciousness of spirit and soul because you can!
