We are hard workers, and many of us are workaholics in fact. We produce and create for our companies and families. We are there for loved ones in need and take care of all the details, so that's why I'd like to stop to praise the counterpart to all that work, rest.
I confess I'm not very good at resting because I'm not good at feeling bored. I can barely get through ten pages of a book because I get restless and start thinking of things I can do to produce like cooking, cleaning, or working on something. Sometimes the only way I can rest is if I schedule it in and resting is the task I'm meant to accomplish. Other times, I work myself so hard that I get kicked own and can't pull myself away from the sofa in some form of forced rest in hopes of avoiding illness.
When I do rest I like to rest in a few different ways.
Take a Vacation. Taking time off your work is critical. I'm on a trip on the beautiful island of Skopelos. Greece and am enjoying som enice time with family. Simply breaking my regular routine helps me relax. Not everyone enjoys a different routine or different scenery, but for many it is a great way to relax.
Naps. If life isn't too stressful or crazy or I'm visiting the family in Greece where a siesta is part of the Greek culture, I adore taking a delicious nap. That refreshed and renewed gusto to engage with the world is on of the blessings on this Earth.
Movies. I can sit own and enjoy a movie, provided it is something I'm interested in watching.
Dining. Fabulous meals are a real treat for this woman, and I love to enjoy that little reward in life that comes in a dining experience.
Baths. Aromatherapy. Bubbles. Jacuzzi. Need I say more? Back in college I learned that a nice bath is a little piece of luxury we can put into our lives without a great effort. It's a nice way to balance things out and be kind to yourself after a hard day.
I'm felling a little more relaxed after thinking of all these relaxing activities. How do you relax and recharge? I encourage you to take a little resting time free of cell phones and distractions if you can for even 15 minutes. Recharge yourself because you can!
