Do you want to be better at something, learning a language, remembering people's names, eating healthier, or anything else? You may think you can't. You may tell yourself you can't or that you've always been a certain way and can't change.
I have news for you, GOOD news. You can! You can by doing just one thing, deciding to. Decide you can and commit to the decision. It's amazing how your abilities skyrocket, when you decide. It is extraordinarily empowering.
Some days I may feel down or grumpy and recognize it through a moment of self-awareness. I notice if I don't like my energy or mood, and I tell myself that I can decide to focus on something positive. Then I start to think about what I do have. I think about my health and the love in my life. I make a conscious decision to have an attitude adjustment. If it's a moody day, which I think we all have from time to time, I may adjust my attitude multiple times in a day, but it all boils down to the fact that I can if I decide.
As my mentor, Rhonda Shasteen, taught, you are in control of your thoughts. Since you control what you think, you can decide to think about something else. When you decide to think about something else, you can think about what is positive in your life. You can think about action steps to be a stronger leader. You can decide to work longer or leave the office sooner to achieve greater work life balance. You can do any number of things to achieve what personal success means to you.
It is a simple and powerful concept. You have the control over what you decide. I hope this offers you some encouragement and affirmation that you can do what you put your mind to doing. Some people call it will power. All will power is, is committing to your decision. You can!
