Are you Type A or are you loosey-goosey? How do you feel when you land in a less than perfectly organized situation? Does a sense of chaos make you feel insecure, uncertain and frustrated, or does it fuel you with a sense of excitement and desired drama?
I, personally, lean more toward the Type A side of things. I love organization, process, and structure. I like to have managed expectations about what is coming my way. In the busy world we live in, that is not likely to happen all the time, or even sometimes.
For example, it's possible to spend months planning a dream vacation cruise. You have every minute planned down to the T and have a perfectly budgeted spreadsheet of your trip. Then, you get there, and the boat doesn't have you registered as a passenger. "Wait, but I have a receipt and flew all the way to the port from Nebraska," you tell the ticket taker. "What do I do now?" you ponder in distress.
Now is the time to embrace the chaos. The hard part at this stage is accepting that you are in a chaotic situation that is highly out of your control. The next thing to do is to process the emotion of the chaotic state. This part is even harder because every person has a different rate for processing things. Lastly, you have to make a choice to go forward with the best attitude you can muster, or you can choose to let it get the best of you.
I've learned that the power of deciding to be open to a situation that isn't what you expected can be the trick to enjoying something that might have been ruined all together had you chosen the other path.
If you enjoy a little chaos, lucky you! You can handle those situations with flare. For you other Type A's out there, go on and embrace the chaos. You can!
