How ingrained are you in your habits? I know I'm stuck to mine so much that I can do them in my sleep. I have my morning routine. I go to work the same way almost every day. I have set workout days and routines, and I have a bad habit of rushing through it all, that is, until I gave myself permission to slow down.
When I was growing up, I learned that speed was a virtue. I heard people complaining about slow service, slow results, slow mail, or slow almost anything. What I didn't see so much was the preference for accuracy over speed. Consequently, I learned to rush through everything and went about my day multi-tasking like a fiend. I developed habits to get me from point A to point B in the minimum amount of time with maximum output.
Then, I realized life wasn't a race, and I gave myself permission to slow down. As a result, I stopped running into things, dropping stuff or spilling as much, and I stayed far less stressed out on any average day. Learning to relax speed a bit, gave me courage to work on other things
I also gave myself permission to eat carbohydrates sometimes! I know it seems silly, but eating good carbs added a lot to my mood and attitude. It helped to eat a little bread and pasta sometimes and real sugar anytime I needed sweetener. The scale didn't even suffer for it. I didn't go gangbusters, but I relaxed within reason.
We all have habits we can relax a little that will help us enjoy life a little more while reducing stress a lot. I hope you'll give yourself permission to do what is best for you today because you can!
