I've responded to a challenge to post seven lines from the seventh page of my novel, Tango on the Heart, working title. They are below. Let me know what you think!
“Being an entertainer isn’t what you imagine,” Diego said. “City women are a bunch of whores, anyway. You don’t want to be like them.”
Camille stood with her hand on her hip, face stern. “No, they aren’t. People talk about them like that because they dress in all the newest fashion. I want to be stylish, but it’s not practical on the ranch.” She released her stance and walked freely. Camille’s developing wherewithal to stand up for herself to Diego encouraged her to continue. Every time felt easier.
Meanwhile, Leo stood aghast. During the lull, he said, “Let’s go shop for your wedding rings.” He loosened the horses from their resting place. “Get inside everyone.” He motioned Camille and Diego toward the buggy.
Diego took one over-sized, man-step and sat inside. He sported a semi-permanent scowl on his face. In his seat, he leaned back and let his legs drop open wide and slipped his suspenders, loose over his shoulders. The top buttons of his shirt fell open to let the sun in.
Leo assisted his sister into the buggy like a gentleman. Camille scanned Diego’s body as she stepped in and took her assigned place in the back. She never could understand why this gorgeous man had to have such a foul, erratic disposition.
